🦋 Women's History Month starts with a moth

When a Woman Named the Bug

In 1947, Grace Hopper's team cracked open a failing Harvard Mark II computer and found a real moth lodged in the relay.

They taped it into the logbook with a note: "first actual case of bug being found."

That small act of naming — with humor, with precision, with zero apology — helped popularize debugging culture and a cornerstone of women in computing history.

Grace didn't panic at the glitch.

She documented it, learned from it, and moved forward.

The AI tools we build today stand on that same foundation — women who refused to look away from what was broken.

And that lineage is very much alive.

This Sunday, March 8thInternational Women's Day — I'm joining Lovable's global women's vibe coding day to build AI-powered tools for women solopreneurs.

Eighty years after Grace taped that moth into her logbook, women are still showing up, still building, still refusing to look away.

This Women's History Month I'm also placing something in your hands.

The Pause with Purpose™ Quiz isn't a personality test.

Grounded in polyvagal theory, somatic awareness and psychometric design, it maps your natural relationship to stillness across 8 universal pause energy archetypes — this month, each one is illustrated through the lens of a woman.

Not a label. A mirror.

Reflecting your wiring so you can work with it, not against it.

This month, discover which woman archetype lives in your nervous system.

🦋 What would you find if you paused long enough to look inside your own logbook?

A small personal note before we wrap up week 1 of Women's History Month.

Once upon a time, my graduate research was built around exactly this.

Not the moth. The humans in the room with the bugs.

My work examined how software teams collaborated around bug management — through an ethnographic lens grounded in a framework called Activity Theory.

I studied Apple. I studied HP. I published.

Then life took me somewhere else.

But the questions never left: How do humans and systems shape each other? When things break — what do we actually do?

That thread runs straight through to everything I do now.

More on that next week. 🦋

✨ 🦋 Women's History Month Fun Fact: Grace Hopper was a US Navy Rear Admiral who pioneered COBOL — one of the first human-readable programming languages. She made technology more human before anyone had a word for it.
