🦋 Women's History Month: we build without permission

She Built Without Permmission. So Did I.

Last week I asked what happens when the observer finally builds something. This week — here's what happened.

Grace Hopper taught computers to speak English.

You met her in Edition 1 — the moth, the logbook, the bug.

What you may not know is that before the bug, she was told computers couldn't understand words.

She built the first compiler anyway — a program that translated human-readable instructions into machine code. Then helped create COBOL, one of the first programming languages written in plain English.

The door that opened has never closed.

The door that opened has never closed.

Every programming language written since. Every app built on Lovable. Every founder who typed a sentence and watched software appear.

All of it traces back to a woman who built the thing they said couldn't be built.

Her motto: "It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission."

Sabrine Matos built safety.

Eighty years later, a growth marketer named Sabrine Matos sat down with Lovable - vibe coding platform - and built Plinq — a women's safety app that lets you instantly scan dates, hires, and contacts against public criminal records.

No computer science degree. No engineering team. No permission.

Vibe coded. Plain language prompts. AI did the rest.

Forty thousand users. Two hundred thousand dollars in revenue in under a year.

What Grace Hopper made possible, women like Sabrine are finishing.

Then came March 8th.

International Women's Day, 2026.

Lovable ran a SheBuilds event — 24 hours free, an open invitation to build.

I sat down and started building café.

Not because I had a computer science degree.

Not because I had an engineering team.

Not because anyone gave me permission.

Because the door was open. And I had learned — from Grace, from Sabrine, from every woman in this series — that you walk through it.

café — Conscious Authority Flow Engine — is an evergreen content creation platform for founders who want to create content to engage with their ideal clients from their compass, not their anxiety.

What this series was always about.

Four weeks. Four editions. Six women who observed, healed, and built.

Grace Hopper, who taught computers to speak English. Margaret Mead, who went into the field. Jane Goodall, who sat still until the truth arrived. Candace Pert, who proved the body was never separate from the mind. Sura, who left Wall Street and came back with something truer. Sabrine, who vibe coded her way into the market.

And you — reading this, somewhere between the friction and the build.

This series was never just about them.

It was always about what happens when you stop waiting for the door to open —

and build the one you need — without waiting for permission.

Two things I built for you.

The first is already waiting.

Founder's Why Compass — a daily reflection space for founders. Mind, heart, somatic body. Roots, transitions, vision. A place to come home to, every single day.

Belief-driven. ICA-informed. Voice-first.

The app that could only ever sound like you.

That image above? That's me with Rich — my husband and partner in all of this. Two people at a table. A conversation that never stops. That's what I'm building café to feel like.

A small personal note to close out Women's History Month.

Four weeks ago I started this series not knowing exactly where it would land.

What I know now is this:

Every woman in this series built something the world wasn't ready for. And the world caught up.

You are already building. Even when it doesn't feel that way. Even when the door is closed. Even when the nervous system is loud.

Your pause is still your compass.

Keep going. 🦋

✨ 🦋 Women's History Month Fun Fact: Grace Hopper didn't just build the first compiler — she also found the world's first literal computer bug. In 1947, a moth got trapped in the Harvard Mark II computer and caused a malfunction. Her team taped it into the logbook with the note: "First actual case of bug being found." She is the reason we call software problems "bugs" to this day. The woman who built the language also named the glitch.

🤍 An Authentic Conversation on Intentional Living 🤍 May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and lately I’ve been reflecting on how many people are quietly carrying a growing sense of mental and emotional overload. Not only from life itself — but from the constant acceleration of the digital world. The pressure to keep up. To stay visible. To adapt faster. To always be “on.” Especially in the age of AI. This week, I joined Ashley Strong Smith on her podcast, Living an Intentional Life, for a...
