The Friction Audit: Mapping the Gaps Blocking Your Flow

When I first got serious about fitness, I got disciplined about one thing before I ever touched a weight: the night before.

Workout clothes laid out on the edge of the bed. Protein powder set on the counter. Some nights I even showered before bed so I wasn't losing ten minutes to it in the morning.

None of that made me stronger. It didn't improve a single rep. It removed every small decision between waking up and being at the gym — so the only thing left to do at 6 a.m. was show up.

That's friction removal. Not trying harder in the moment. Making the moment require less from you in the first place.

Different territory than last week, on purpose. Last week was about the 281 files that came back looking finished and weren't — the reminder to keep your judgment in the loop. Still true. But this week isn't about catching what AI got wrong. It's about something that happens before AI ever touches the task at all.

Here's your one win, right now, no clicking required. Ask yourself two questions: What's a task I do over and over? And what do I have to figure out, from scratch, every single time I sit down to do it?

For me, it's the podcast episode into the Tuesday newsletter. Or the research pull for an AI Knowledge Library article. Both repeat, on a schedule, every single week. But the thinking underneath them — what angle to take, how to structure it, what actually belongs in it — wasn't written down anywhere. I was re-deciding all of that live, every time, before I ever got to the actual writing. That's the friction. Not the task itself. The thinking I kept redoing just to start it.

Take the newsletter. It used to cost me a couple of hours, every week, for exactly that reason. Now it takes about fifteen minutes — not because AI got smarter, but because I stopped re-deciding and built the answer in once.

Same logic as a teleprompter for going live: the hard part of speaking on camera isn't the speaking, it's not knowing what to say next. Script it once, and the hard part is solved before you hit record.

In this week's blog, I'm walking through exactly how I built that setup — the specific thing I trained into my process so it just runs "you know the drill" every Tuesday, plus the step-by-step for building your own version, task by task. If the one question above already surfaced something for you, this is where you go build the fix.

And here's the part I don't think enough people connect to AI strategy: every decision you don't have to make live is nervous-system capacity you get to keep. As a solopreneur wearing every hat, friction was never just a time cost. It was the hum of "what does this need to look like, did I forget something" — running underneath everything, all day.

As a solopreneur, reducing friction isn't just a productivity move — it's one of the most direct ways to protect your capacity to actually run the business you built. You don't have to build every system alone.

Hi Reader If last week’s Friction Audit had you looking for where AI was doing too much, or too little, there’s one kind of friction it doesn’t catch: output that’s technically fine, and still not you. I used to hand AI a lot of direction before I’d let it near a draft. Topic, theme, throughline — mapped out in advance, then worked through line by line. Hi Reader, One person showed up. That's how Monday's relaunch of my Collective Consciousness Circle began. After all the planning, promotion, and juggling that comes with building a business, I found myself confronting something I've been consciously working on through my daily meditation practice. Expectations. Don't misunderstand me. I was genuinely grateful to the woman who joined me. But the experience made me reflect on something much deeper. Years ago, while grieving the loss of my...
