🐘 The Elephant in the Room: Intuition Over Impulse (1) | April 2026

✨ Intuition Over Impulse (2)
May 2026 | Published monthly — last Friday of every month
Last month we named the fear underneath the AI noise. We claimed intuition as the human advantage. This month we go inside the protection. Because naming it is one thing. Keeping it sharp in a world designed to dull it is another.
The Elephant Nobody Is Saying Out Loud
Europol's synthetic media report estimated that as much as 90% of online content could be AI-generated by 2026. Whether the exact figure holds, the direction is clear — and you can already feel it.
The fear isn't being replaced. It's subtler than that. It's the 2am question nobody is saying out loud:
Will my voice still matter?
That fear has a name. And this edition is for the founder who is quietly carrying it.
Here's what the market is actually saying back: at Social Media World in April, Mari Smith and others were making the same point from the stage — the founders and creators who will thrive aren't the most technically fluent. They're the ones who show up with something irreplaceable. Genuine presence. Lived experience. A voice that couldn't have been generated.
The market is not moving away from human voice. It's hungry for it.
Researchers and technologists — including those who helped build the attention economy and now warn against it — are saying the window to establish meaningful AI guardrails is narrow. A year or two at most before the dynamics become much harder to steer. This isn't alarmist. It's a call to protect your signal now while the window is open.
The Muscle Nobody Told You to Protect
At SXSW 2026, cognitive neuroscientist Dr. Sahar Yousef of UC Berkeley offered an analogy I haven't been able to let go of.
We invented gyms because the Industrial Revolution removed the physical labor that kept our bodies functional. We had to manufacture the friction artificially.
Now AI is removing the cognitive labor that keeps our minds sharp. Every time AI handles a draft, an analysis, or a decision you would have worked through yourself — it removes a rep that builds cognitive muscle. The brain atrophies just like any other muscle when it stops being used.
"We don't have brain gyms yet," she said. "You're going to have to do this on your own for a little bit if you care."
Your mindfulness practice is your brain gym. You built one long before anyone told you to.
And here's the confirmation from an unexpected corner. A March 2026 TLDR AI report found that 96% of developers distrust AI output — saying it looks correct but isn't reliable. Writers and founders are discovering the same thing about AI-generated content. It passes the eye test. It fails the nervous system test.
That gap — between looks right and feels true — is exactly where intuition lives.
What the Body Already Knows
I've been sitting with something Lavinia Plonka said on the podcast earlier this spring — that
the body is constantly recognizing patterns and updating predictions, and that most of us were simply never taught to listen to those signals.
Intuition isn't mysterious. It's somatic intelligence — pattern recognition happening below the threshold of conscious thought. The hollow feeling when content lands flat isn't a prompt problem. It's a signal problem. Your nervous system registered the absence of you in the words before your mind had language for it.
Katharine Giovanni, whose episode dropped this month, adds the layer underneath — clearing inner noise is what allows the signal to come through clearly. It's how the signal gets through. Forgiveness, release, entropy reduction — whatever form it takes for you — is what creates the internal space where intuition can actually be heard.
And Rizwan Virk reminds us we don't need the full map. Intuition works step by step. You just need the next clue. And when a clue repeats as patterns — it deserves attention.
When everything is telling you to move faster, intuition is what helps you move true.
What Month One of Conscious AI Use Actually Looked Like
Something shifted when I started building skills — custom instruction sets that teach Claude to write in my voice, follow my frameworks, and produce output that actually sounds like me rather than a polished but generic version of me.
That's the bridge I didn't expect. Before you trust an agent to act on your behalf, you have to teach it who you are. Skills are how you do that. Not prompts you retype every session — but a built knowledge base of your voice, your values, your way of seeing. The more I've invested in that, the more the output feels like an amplification of my thinking rather than a replacement for it.
That's what growing trust with AI actually looks like in practice. Not handing the wheel over. Building a system that knows you well enough to be worth trusting incrementally.
I haven't handed the show fully to an agent. What I've done is become a conductor — supervised, deliberate, reviewing before anything goes anywhere. Claude Cowork drafts emails behind the scenes. Perplexity runs research through its computer feature. Manus — an AI agent platform — mostly in chat mode for now. Each one a specific tool for a specific task — with me checking the output before it moves anywhere.
A good example of what that looks like in practice: I've been gearing up to find sponsors for my labor of love — the Omni Mindfulness Podcast. And rather than doing every step manually, I built a small sponsorship system.
Meet my Sponsorship Team: Gemini reads my spreadsheets and checks email threads. Perplexity runs research reports on prospective brands. Claude drafts outreach copy and leaves drafts directly in my Gmail. Each tool does what it does best. I decide what goes to whom, when, and why.
It's not seamless. I correct. I adjust. I stay in the loop. But the trust is growing — because the system is learning who I am.
Impulse moves first. Intuition moves true.
Your Original Source Code — Still the Show
A human using AI replaces a human who doesn't. True.
But add this: a human who knows herself replaces the one who got so good at prompting she forgot what she actually believed.
Self-fluency before AI fluency.
AI is the backstage crew. You are still the show. Your voice is not getting lost. It's getting more essential. The question was never whether to use the tools. It was always whether you'd stay present enough to direct them.
⚡ Amplify Your AI Skill: Sharpen Your Intuition Daily
Tip 2 of 3 — Use meditation to train signal over noise
Even a short daily practice strengthens your ability to tell the difference between a conditioned reaction and a deeper knowing. The goal is to calm the mind so it can hear the inner voice. The practical effect: you become less likely to reach for AI as your first answer and more likely to sense whether a direction actually feels aligned before you act on it.
Struggle for a few minutes on your own first — even just two or three bullet points of what you actually think — before you open any tool. You arrive at the AI conversation with a point of view rather than an empty page. That changes the dynamic from tell me what to think to help me work through this.
Tip 3 of 3 comes next month — the final piece of the daily practice.
🐘 Amplify You
This week notice one moment when your body knew something before your mind did. A hesitation. A pull. A quiet yes or no that arrived before the reasoning.
Don't analyze it. Just write it down.
Then — before you open any AI tool — pause and ask:
What do I actually think about this? What does my body already know?
Write two sentences. Then invite AI in.
Notice the gap between what you brought and what it generated. That gap is where your voice lives.
You don't need the full map. You just need to start trusting what's already arriving — before the tool does. When everything is telling you to move faster, intuition is what helps you move true.
Your pause is your compass. Your knowing is your north.
